In 2021, I lost my mother to cancer. While sorting through her art studio, I discovered a vast collection of vintage silk kimono swatches that had been passed down to her from my grandfather. I began exploring my ancestry and the history of these kimono swatches while also creating tapestry artworks through appliqué.

This series is inspired by an emotional comment my mother made before her passing, and I wanted to honor her dedication, patience and love in her life by creating these works.

My mum loved hydrangeas, which were growing by the corner of our small garden. One day when she returned from shopping, she found them gone. Her mother in law didn’t like them so she pulled them up. My mum was devastated. Now I am sending her the gift with the praise for her dedication, patience and love in her life.
